Being a Female Chief Executive in the Maritime Industry

Angela Chao

This is a summary of TradeWinds May Edition

The maritime industry is seeing more and more women in executive positions, but Tradewinds, a global shipping news outlet, observes that barriers still exist. In its summer quarterly edition, Tradewinds tackles the issue through interviews with a global roster of women executives in the shipping industry, the goal being to learn just how receptive the industry has been to them.

Among the interviewees are Angela Chao, Chair and CEO of Foremost Group, Ranger Day, CEO at Goldin Maritime, Zhu Yunrong, General Manager at China Minsheng Trust, and Paillette Palaiologou, Regional Chief Executive at Bureau Veritas. Chao notes that males dominate executive positions in the shipping industry, however the same can be said for many other industries in the global marketplace. She believes that a career in Shipping is very fulfilling and hopes more women will join and that the women already in the industry have a unique responsibility to pave the way for more women to follow.
