On October 15 2015, Angela Chao, Deputy Chair of the Foremost Group, joined her father, Dr. James S.C. Chao, sister, The Honorable Elaine L. Chao, and a crowd of well-wishers – to celebrate the opening of two new kindergartens in China’s Lai’an county, Anhui province. The kindergartens were made possible through a generous donation from the Chao Family Foundations, and were named in honor of the family’s matriarch, the late Ruth Mulan Chu Chao. Around 500 students will attend each of the kindergartens, which are located in Ruth Mulan Chu Chao’s native county. In 2014, she was inducted into the Lai’an Hall of Fame. Her husband, Dr. James S.C. Chao, founder of Foremost Group, was very moved by the county’s desire to honor his wife. With the opening of these two new kindergartens, the honor comes full circle: within this learning environment China’s next generation of leaders can begin their journey, following in the footsteps of Ruth Mulan Chao, who gave so much of her life to advancing educational opportunities.

The Honorable Elaine L. Chao shared her dream that the local children and their families will learn from the legacy of her mother and be inspired to pursue the highest levels of education. She also emphasized the growing importance of China’s role in the world, which requires a population that is well educated, and more knowledgeable about and connected to international cultures.

Angela Chao, the youngest daughter in the family, believes that the children will receive an exceptional education at these new kindergartens. She said that “Education will inspire them and help them realize their Chinese dreams,” adding that she is hopeful they will each make a great contribution to society.
